I know many of you would want to know that sweet Valentina passed away today.
Valentina came into my life seventeen years ago, when friends of my roommate Dina, broke up and asked us to watch her a month before another friend took her to DC. They had gotten her only one year earlier on Valentine's Day. So...Valentina moved into our fifth floor walk-up in New York's East Village. By the end of the first week, I knew I couldn't give her up. She has been my buddy, my morning alarm clock, my comforter and companion, always happy to see me - with a purr, even to the end. When Nick and I met, he feel in love with her and she with him. Valentina would wait patiently in the shower, every morning, for Nick to get up and start his day. I would hear him having full conversations with her at 6am and Valentina responding with a meow or purr. When either of us had to be out-of-town on business, she'd be right next to us - making sure we weren't alone. She was incredibly sensitive and intuitive and was truly the sweetest, most beautiful cat. Our hearts are broken. We miss her terribly and know those of you who knew her, will miss her too.

i remember one time cat sitting. I had never done that before. i walked into the door and sat on mary's couch. valenina sat with me and i combed her hair and talked to her. 20 minutes passed and i thought it was about the right time to go. i walked down the long hallway to the door. valentina was right behind me saying..."so soon?" so i turned around and went right back to the couch and sat with her again. she had stolen my heart completely.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful kitty - so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry... I know it's really heart-breaking to lose a beloved pet. Hope the memories made with her will make the loss more bearable.
ReplyDeleteI just learned of your loss while reading your blog, and I am so very sorry to hear about your beautiful Valentina. While I never had the chance to meet her, she sounds like she was quite a wonderful pet.
